Family Stories|

The Steel Valley Family Center has been extremely helpful to my children and I.

I joined the family center in May of 2016 right before my son Hunter was born. The family center helped me get to my prenatal doctor appointments and helped me to get an infant seat for my son. Once my child was born the family center helped me out with formula and diapers for the baby. The family center helped me to get to welfare and WIC appointments that were difficult for me to get transportation to on my own.

When Hunter’s father and I broke up and I had nowhere to stay the family center helped me to find a shelter to stay in and helped to get me and Hunter there. The family center helped me to find my first home on my own so my son and I had a safe place to live. I was so happy that I was able to have a home to call my own. The family center helped me to get furniture and other things I needed for the house.

When I became pregnant with my second child the family center helped me to get to my prenatal appointments and supported me throughout my pregnancy. When I had my daughter, Rosemary, the family Center helped me to get the things I needed for the baby such as a crib so the baby had a safe place to sleep.

The family center continues to help me and my family. They help to provide transportation so my children can get to their doctor appointments, welfare appointments, and to court dates that I had to deal with child support issues that I was dealing with. Jasmine comes to my house to do home visits each month. She helps me to learn things about where the kids should be developmentally and does screenings with the kids. The kids like the activities that Jasmine brings.  The family center helped me out when I lost my job to provide diapers and food for my children while I try to get back on my feet again.

I am very grateful for all the help and support my children and I receive from the Steel Valley Family Center.
