Summer is here! Isn’t it time for the kids to go back to school?
The Back to School Bash hears you. We are making plans for our annual backpack distribution.

WHEN: August 19th from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM

WHERE: Church Street from 6th Street to 7th Street in Indiana, PA

HOW: Phone Registration July 10th through 28th Monday – Friday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 724-463-8036.

ALL recipients of the backpacks MUST meet the following requirements:

  • Be residents of Indiana County.
  • Attend an accredited school K4 through Grade 12 for the 2017-18 school year.
  • Household income must be less than 200% of the national poverty level.
  • ALL qualifying children MUST have registered at the above phone number to receive a backpack with school supplies.

The evening will feature Special Presenter, Terry Thomas is an experienced early childhood
educator involved in many aspects of early care and education for young children. She runs her own consulting business and is an adjunct professor at LCCC in the early education department. Her website is:

  • Learn six skills every child should have before they begin kindergarten.
  • Giveaways and light refreshments!
  • Kindergarten readiness materials will be distributed.

June 11: The Little Red Wagon Storytime

All are welcome to attend the Little Red Wagon story time at the Palmer Park Mall. Look for the red balloons, they will lead you to story time, free books and an appearance by Frozen’s Elsa and Anna. This literacy event is made possible by Project LEAP, Easton Cops ‘n’ Kids Reading Room, Kindergarten Connection and the Palmer Park Mall. 

Inspired by the PA One Book

After reading the 2017 PA One Book selection, Daniels Finds a Poem, the children at Rose Tree Day School in Media, PA wrote their own poem with the help of Ms. G, their wonderful Guest Reader!

Poetry is like a funny word: ‘goo-goo ga-ga’

It is a snake slithering through the grass

It is a lion roaring on the plains

It is a spider spinning a web

It is the sunset glowing in the evening

It is lizards crawling across the ceiling

It is birds flying through the sunlight

Family Scholarships Available to Attend the NAC

Would you or a family you know like to attend the National Autism Conference (NAC), July 31 – August 3, 2017 in State College? For Pennsylvania parents of children with autism enrolled in Early Intervention, scholarship applications are available to ALL who want to attend, not just those who are first-time attendees. Parent scholarships will cover the following:

  • complimentary conference registration for up to two parent(s)/guardian(s)
  • lodging reimbursement during the conference (receipts required) if live at least 30 miles from the conference location
  • mileage to be reimbursed at $.53/mile and tolls (receipts required)
  • meals up to per diem expense during reasonable travel periods that are NOT provided as part of the National Autism Conference
Interested? Check out the conference website Opportunities tab. Applications are due by Friday, April 28, 2017. Spread the word to all parents or guardians who have children on the autism spectrum and let them know that Monday-Wednesday are especially good days for early childhood sessions.
