FGP volunteers (ages 55+) support academic and social-emotional needs by providing one-on-one attention as role models, mentors and tutors to children and youth with special and exceptional needs in: Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties, Pa. Funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service.

During the August 20 SmartKids Meadowlands Parking Lot Picnic, Washington County over 80 parents and guests had the opportunity to engage with individuals who provide valuable information and resources, pertinent to many of the family’s lives. (more…)
During July and August 2014, the Community Action Southwest PA Pre-K Counts Program implemented six Kindergarten Readiness Programs (KRPs) in Washington and Greene Counties. A total of 92 KG eligible children were enrolled in the KRP classrooms, located in the elementary school buildings of Beth Center, Central Greene, Jefferson Morgan, McGuffey, Ringgold and Washington school districts. The homesteading way of life has grown on a Venango County family. Grit magazine has named the Brown family, owners of Brown’s Family Group Childcare in Franklin, as runners-up on the 2014 Homesteaders of the Year list.
Jasen and Lindsey Brown and their three children, Jacob, 10, Kylie, 7, and Austin, 4, began homesteading when they bought their farm three years ago. When Lindsey Brown, 28, read that Grit was seeking Homesteader of the Year nominations, she decided to nominate her family for the award. (more…)
