DuBois Child and Family Center Earns Bright Star Award

DuBois Child and Family Center, a Keystone STARS Star 4 childcare and preschool in Clearfield County operated by Cen-Clear Child Services, Inc., was awarded the “Bright Star” Award for 2013-14 in a ceremony at the center today, co-sponsored by the Northwest Institute of Research and Clarion University. Participants sought for the Monroe & Pike County LEARN Team

The Monroe County LEARN team and the Children’s Team of Monroe and Pike Counties have agreed to join forces for a new partnership.

The Children’s Team acts as the Local Interagency Coordinating Council.

The combined group held its first official meeting during May 2014. Projects that the team is working on include a new brochure and a directory of helpful resources/information. Community outreach and publicity are other goals.
The team will be represented at the upcoming Pocono Raceway Day/Safety Fair being sponsored by Pocono Medical Center on May 31.

Partnership to Support Fitness Programs in Community Youth Program

New Light Christian Education Center (NLCEC) has been awarded a $5,600 grant from Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield to support fitness programs for pre-kindergarten children and afterschool children.

As part of the grant, NLCEC will provide children ages 3 – 5 with summer pre-kindergarten physical development activities to support healthy families, active children, and school readiness. (more…)

Bringing something extra to Pre-K students

Right from the Start Daycare & Preschool Center in Hamburg welcomed Christine Behm from the PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning as a guest reader during April’s Month of the Young Child.

Twenty pre-k children enjoyed hearing Behm read the 2014 PA One Book, Stripes of All Types by author Susan Stockdale. (more…)

Guests at SmartKids!

Washington SmartKids held their annual Literacy Day event on April 22, 2014, at the Washington Center to celebrate the Month of the Young Child and bring awareness as to the importance of early literacy.

Several community leaders including Rep. Jesse White, Senator Solobay’s legislative assistant Debbie Bachinski, Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughn, Literacy Council Manager Jessica Luisi, Ester Clark from Southwest Training Services, Jamie Roux from Community Action and Washington City Police Captain Bob Wilson, were in attendance. Sienna is excelling!

When Sienna was enrolled and accepted into PA Pre-K Counts we were thrilled. Her education is our primary focus. Being an only child has its challenges. The program has not only helped Sienna academically but also helped her socially. Being in a Keystone STAR 4 facility has made all of the difference. (more…)

Elizabethtown Child Care Center welcomes two guest readers

The Elizabethtown Child Care Center welcomed two guest readers to the program during April’s Week of the Young Child.

Donna Wennerholt, Professional Development Project Manager at the Pennsylvania Key, read to a group of 14 pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children. Miss Donna shared interesting information about each animal in the 2014 PA One Book selection, Stripes of All Types by author Susan Stockdale. Miss Donna even donated Beanie Babies to the classrooms that looked just like some of the animals! (more…)
